What sailors say

Real experiences from sailors around the world

We crossed from UK to Canaries last autumn with the Hydro Charger running most of the way. Brilliant piece of kit. Silent, reliable, and at our average 6 knots we were generating around 200W constantly. Battery never dropped below 80%. The Android app makes monitoring dead simple. Worth every penny.

Hi we are now in East London South Africa, we sail around the world with the hydrocharger and from start from Stockholm that will be over 30000 seamile.

And we are very happy with the hydrocharger we have so much power so we can sail. This trip had not been so easy without the hydrocharger and we properly have to change batteries, now we always have batteries fully loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before buying

At what speed does it start charging?

From 3 knots it already generates usable electricity. At 5-6 knots you produce enough power to cover typical onboard consumption (fridge, electronics, lights).

How much energy does it really generate?

It depends on your speed: 4 knots ~80W, 6 knots ~200W, 8 knots ~400W, 10 knots ~500W (maximum)

Does it work with lithium batteries?

Yes, but it is essential to consult with your battery manufacturer beforehand and install a cut-off relay between the Hydro Charger and the controller. Without these steps, the controller can be damaged.

Do I need special tools to install it?

No. You only need: 17mm socket wrench (for propeller), 13mm wrench (for bracket), 6mm Allen key (for backplate) and basic screwdriver. Typical installation: 30-45 minutes.

What maintenance does it need?

Minimal maintenance: rinse with fresh water after sailing, periodic visual inspection (bolts, cable), propeller cleaning if dirty, and apply protective oil before storage. No complex moving parts to fail.

Can I use it together with solar panels?

Yes! It's the perfect combination: Solar panels generate energy during the day, Hydro Charger generates energy while sailing (day/night). Result: always charged batteries. The controller manages both sources automatically (in 24V version: up to 400W solar + 600W hydro).

What happens if the propeller hits something in the water?

The system is designed to resist minor impacts. However, damage from ropes, fishing nets, floating objects, or algae is not covered by warranty. Recommendation: raise the generator when navigating in areas with lots of floating debris or in ports.

Which bracket do you recommend?

Coastal sailing (1-5 days): Fixed Bracket (7109) - €118.58. Catamaran or swim platform: Swim Platform Bracket (7110) - €196.02. Offshore / Passages / Frequent heeling: Pendulum Bracket (7111) - €297.66

How long does shipping take?

We ship from Mallorca (Spain): Peninsula 3-5 business days, Balearic Islands 2-3 days, Canary Islands 5-7 days, International 7-14 days.

Does it have a warranty?

Yes, full warranty: Duration 24 months or 8,000 nautical miles (whichever comes first). Coverage of manufacturing and material defects. Service in Porto Cristo, Mallorca. Exclusions: damage from floating objects, misuse.

Can I install it myself or do I need a professional?

Most sailors install it themselves following the included manual. You only need basic DIY skills, common tools, and 30-45 minutes. If you prefer professional installation, we can recommend a nearby distributor.
